Bath, Brunswick
Bath Maine is renowned as a ship building town, its
legacy continues to this day at Bath Iron Works, and dates back to 1743 when
clipper ships were produced here. Located in Sagadahoc County -the Abenaki
word meaning “mouth of big river”, Bath is historic in its manufacturing of
iron, brass and timber, and the remaining architecture speaks to the wealth
and prosperity of the Bath community. Bath is also famous - scenes for
“Message in a Bottle” and “Man without a Face” were filmed here.
Brunswick is home to Bowdoin College and the Brunswick Naval Air Station.
Brunswick was settled in 1628 along the falls of the Androscoggin River.
Brunswick has an Ivy League college town feel to it, with plenty of
seafaring history to go along. Several of the grand sea captains' mansions
are listed on the National Historic Register. The Town’s grassy mall area is
home to festivals and provides a respite between stops at Bath’s restaurants
and shops on Pleasant Street and Cook’s Corner.
