More details and features on the Katahdin and Moosehead Lake Regions

Located in north central Maine, in Penobscot County, Millinocket is the gateway to the Katahdin Region and Baxter State Park. Millinocket is laid back, less crowded and friendly – “the way life should be.” Summers in Millinocket give way to biking, hiking and white water rafting with several rafting companies on the West Branch of the Penobscot River. Baxter State Park has over 200 miles of trails including the Appalachian Trail. Fall is a popular time for foliage; leaf peepers love the views of Mount Katahdin. Hunters find late fall to be perfect for white tail deer hunting. In winter, there are miles of groomed snowmobile trails, plus cross country skiing and snowshoeing. There is typically plenty of snow on the North Woods trails.

The Trails End Festival is an annual celebration of the famous Northern End of the Appalachian Trail. The Wooden Art/Canoe festival in Millinocket celebrates the heritage of timber, lumber, canoes and kayaks in this sportsmen and loggers region. The Katahdin Region has camping, hotel and motels, lodges and inns to accommodate you during your Northern Maine adventure.
